That in itself is kind of interesting given (at least according to Captain Beefheart biographer Mike Barnes) he originally moved to Los Angeles as an 18 year-old circa 1959 to establish himself as “a writer of film soundtracks” and did in fact churn out two of them (1962’s The World’s Greatest Sinner and 1965’s Run Home Slow … plus he and his band, The Mothers of Invention, appeared in the documentary Mondo Hollywood, which was also made in 1965). His stuff later appeared in some of the early episodes of the mid-1990s animated US TV cartoon Duckman.... [read full article at Top 10 Films]

What were the best movies of 2013...

What was the best movie of 2013?

Top 10 Films critic Ryan Pollard says: "The Mayans were wrong, we made it into 2013, and what a year it has been. It turned out to be a good and interesting year for cinema. There may have been a few stinkers along the way (Pain & Gain, Movie 43, etc.), but some strong films made it through. Hollywood produced its share of enjoyable blockbusters (Despicable Me 2, Man of Steel, Iron Man 3 and Pacific Rim), whilst Britain got their share of great films like Good Vibrations and The Selfish Giant. There were loads of great films to choose from, but here is my Top 10 of 2013. Hope you enjoy."

One of Ryan's favourites was The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. He says: "Jennifer Lawrence strikes again with another astounding performance in the second instalment of The Hunger Games saga. Brilliantly designed, wonderfully played, and paying a significant debt to 1975’s Rollerball, Catching Fire is a strong sequel to the equally impressive first film."
